BIOGRAPHY of J. Timothy Sprehe
J. Timothy Sprehe is president of Sprehe Information Management Associates, a firm offering consulting services in information management to government agencies and private firms since 1991. He specializes in issues such as enterprise content management, electronic records management, strategic planning for information management, privacy, and public access to government information. Dr. Sprehe has conducted consulting studies for many U.S. federal agencies and private firms doing business with the federal government. Dr. Sprehe retired from the U.S. Office of Management and Budget in 1991. He was the principal author of the original 1985 OMB Circular No. A-130: The Management of Federal Information Resources. This U.S. government-wide information policy directive established comprehensive policy on managing information, and managing information systems and technology for all U.S. government executive branch agencies. Dr. Sprehe received an M.A. in 1963 and a Ph.D. in 1967 in sociology from Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a bachelor's degree from St. Louis University. He entered federal service with the Agency for International Development in 1970. Dr. Sprehe served as Deputy Director of the World Fertility Survey in London, England; as Chief of the U.S. Census Bureau's International Statistical Programs Center; as Associate Director of Statistical Policy and as Senior Policy Analyst for Information Policy in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. Sprehe is the author or coauthor of several monographs and more than 150 articles and papers in the fields of federal information policy, federal statistical policy, demography, and survey research. Since 2002, he has chaired the AIIM International C30 Standards Committee on Integrated Electronic Document Management Systems and Electronic Records Management Systems. He has cosponsored an annual conference on federal Electronic Records Management since 1996. He writes a column on information policy topics for Federal Computer Week. Tim Sprehe is married to Elaine Bloomfield and has two sons, John and Pat. He enjoys choral singing and swimming and is active in community affairs. He lives in Chevy Chase, MD. |
